Led by senior captains Rachel Baskin and Kristina Lum, Lowell High School won its 13th consecutive game and completed an undefeated AAA season with a 68-48 win over the International Studies Academy on Tuesday.
Baskin and Lum had 12 points and 13 points respectively in their season finale.
“It was our last game so it was kind of big for us,” Baskin said. “Most of the seniors have been here for all four years.”
Baskin even made an off-balance, half-court shot at the end of the third quarter.
“I’ve always wanted to make one of those this season,” said Baskin..
The Cobras (6-8 in AAA play) ended the game on 17-0 run, but the run came while the Cardinals (25-3, 13-0) starters were on the bench.
“I think we would have been right there if we played the entire game like we did in the fourth quarter,” said ISA Assistant Coach Crystal Fernandez.
The Cobras were led offensively by senior Lajonnae Duffin, who had 17 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
Lowell enters the AAA playoffs as the top seed in the Neff Division and will face the Lang Division’s fourth seed, Jordan High School, in the first round on Friday.
ISA will enter the playoffs as the Neff Division’s third seed and will face the Land Division’s second seed, Washington High School in the first round on Friday.
Lowell Head Coach Aki Kuwada and ISA Head Coach Verna Castro would not comment after the game.
