Girls Basketball: St. Ignatius dropped by Valley Christian in CCS final

Valley Christian managed to survive a late run by St. Ignatius Prep to pull off a 40-37 victory in the CIF-Central Coast Section Division III championship game Saturday at Santa Clara University.

Led by guards Jazmine Davis and AJ Newton, with 14 and 13 points respectively, the Warriors (22-6) won in a closely fought battle between the tournament’s top two seeds.

Davis came alive in the fourth quarter for the Warriors, making scoring nine points, all on three point shots.

St. Ignatius (19-9) entered as the number two seed and led by four points going into the half, but the Warriors came back and limited the Wildcats to eight points in each of the quarters in the second half.

Elise O’Connor led the Wildcats with 17 points, despite not scoring in the first quarter. Caroline Barrack contributed nine points in the loss, but only one in the final period.
