Chloe Roddy and Madison Donahue-Wolfe each hit a home run in Lowell High School’s 15-0 victory over O’Connell High School in AAA play at West Sunset Field on Tuesday.
The Cardinals (8-1, 5-0) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control of the game.
“We needed a breakthrough game and this was it,” said Cardinal Head Coach Sascha Ray. “I think this is a game where our hitting confidence will improve. This will help them gain the confidence to play the same way every game.”
The game was called after the Cardinals scored four runs in the third inning.
“We made a good amount of contact and there were a lot of good positives for the team,” said O’Connell Head Coach Tony Zervas. “You know when you’re going into this game [against Lowell] what the story is going to be.”
Cardinal sophomore pitcher Michelle Willis allowed one walk and had five strikeouts in her three innings of work. Boilermakers (4-2, 4-2) pitcher Johanna Garcia had three strikeouts in her two innings.
“Fortunately, unlike years past, we only have to play Lowell once this year, which makes us happy. We’re happy; now we go to play [International Studies Academy] next. Lowell is a championship team and [Ray] is a great coach.”
