Player of the Week: Valentino Miles

Every Monday, we will be selecting a player of the week who shows extraordinary effort and performance on the field or court in the prior week. We will be taking nominations from coaches, athletic directors and fans. Please send potential players of the week to Player of the Week: Valentino Miles, junior running back, Sacred Heart Cathedral football

Miles ran for 170 yards on 21 carries in the Irish’s 49-27 win over St. Mary’s on Friday at Kezar Stadium.

He was the benefactor of gaping holes opened up by the Sacred Heart offensive line, but when he did encounter a St. Mary’s defender, he often went through or around them.

He scored three touchdowns on the ground and one as a receiver on a 22-yard screen pass from senior quarterback Sean Murphy.

Honorable Mention: Johnny Guerra, junior forward, ISA boys soccer

After scoring a school-record six goals in the Cobras’ 9-1 win over Burton on Sept. 10, Guerra had another standout performance last week, scoring three goals in ISA’s 7-5 loss to Mission on Thursday.

Honorable Mention: Fauris Franco, junior forward/goalkeeper, Gateway soccer

Franco continues to put balls in the net when he plays forward and keep them out when playing as the Gators’ goalkeeper.

He had two goals and an assist as a forward in Gateway’s 4-1 win over Waldorf on Tuesday and had seven saves in the Gators’ 3-1 win over University on Friday.
