Player of the Week: Clara Cardillo

Every Monday, we will be selecting a player of the week who shows extraordinary effort and performance on the field or court in the prior week. We will be taking nominations from coaches, athletic directors and fans. Please send potential players of the week to Player of the Week: Clara Cardillo, senior middle blocker, Bay girls volleyball

It’s hard to imagine Bay School would have prevailed on their five-game win over Leadership on Tuesday without Cardillo’s match-high 18 kills.

With the win, the Breakers set up favorably to make the Bay Counties League Central playoffs and Cardillo will be a large part of their success moving forward.

“She’s always been our go-to; she has been all year, as she should be,” said Bay head coach James Scrivano on Tuesday.

Honorable mention: Quincy Nelson, senior running back, Galileo football

Nelson, who leads the entire Bay Area in rushing yardage, was held down for most of the Lions’ win over Lowell on Thursday, but put the game away with a 33-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

He finished with 119 yards on 22 carries.
