Boys Basketball: Jewish Community wins opener against Liberty Baptist

By Ernest Stone

On Tuesday night at the Buchanan YMCA, Jewish Community High School of the Bay senior guard Ariel Gottlieb spent the majority of his much anticipated season debut on the bench in foul trouble.

Yet, a corps of returning players for the Wolves proved in their 45-31 non-league win over Liberty Baptist of San Jose that they have the ability and savvy to win independent of one player’s performance.

Boys Basketball: Jordan falls short of elusive third win against Sequoia

By Jeremy Balan

In the four years that June Jordan School for Equity has fielded a boys basketball team, it has been the doormat of the Academic Athletic Association.

The Jaguars have won just one of their 62 AAA games in those four years and have never won more than two games in a season.

However, there have been signs of hope this season for Jordan, which equaled it’s highest win output in school history with victories in their first two games against Impact and Envision academies.

But Jordan will have to wait a little longer for its school-record third win though, as visiting Sequoia High School withstood a late Jaguars rally to win 40-37 in non-league action on Tuesday.

The visiting Irish erased a 24-21 deficit to tie the game at 24-24 and 25-25, but Campolindo senior Abbie Noland pounded two consecutive kills to seal the crucial frame in Campolindo’s 25-16, 27-25, 25-14 win on Saturday.
