Prep Wrapup: Riordan gets first win in dramatic fashion

Football: Riordan 37, St. Mary’s 33

Without key offensive players Armani McFarland and D.J. Harvey, the Crusaders (1-2) got all they could ask for on the road against St. Mary’s.

Up 30-20 with 4:28 remaining in the game, Riordan got a scare when the Panthers (0-3) scored 13 unanswered points in nearly three minutes to take the lead.

With 1:33 on the clock, sophomore quarterback Zach Masoli led the Crusaders on a game-winning 59-yard touchdown drive. The drive was highlighted by a 50-yard pass to from Masoli to Geru Mabrey and was capped by a another Masoli-Mabrey connection for a 5-yard touchdown with 13 seconds remaining to put the Crusaders up for good.

Masoli threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns on 11-of-24 passing and rushed for a team-high 52 yards on 11 carries.

Football: Stuart Hall 48, Alma Heights 0

In a runaway win for the Knights (3-0), junior Rodney McKinney had a standout performance on both sides of the ball.

At fullback, he ran for 95 yards and three touchdowns, including a 60-yard score, and at defensive end, he had six tackles and three sacks to lead a standout effort from the Stuart Hall defense.

Sophomore running back Ethan Hankins added 80 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, while Treyvon Hicks had a team-high eight tackles.
