Prep Wrapup: Urban boys soccer knocks University out of first place

Prep Wrapup is our new feature where we will hopefully provide a broad overview of the previous day’s action. Coaches, to contribute to the Prep Wrapup, please send scores and details the night of the game/event to or call our scores line at (415) 251-0918.

Boys Soccer: Urban 1, University 0

A University handball in the penalty area proved to be the difference, when Urban junior Gabe Kaufman scored on the ensuing penalty kick midway through the second half to give the Blues (7-4-2, 1-4-2) their first Bay Counties League West win.

Urban goalkeeper Zach Thompson had four saves to record the Blues’ third shutout of the season, and the loss knocked the Red Devils (9-4-2, 4-2-2) out of first place.

Boys Soccer: Lowell 6, Wallenberg 1

The Cardinals (11-0) extended their AAA win streak to 29 games behind two goals from senior forward Cameron BaSaing.

Max Pollard, Patricio Trejo-Lerdo, Will Slotterback and Dillon Demo also scored goals for Lowell, while Wallenberg (0-11) became the first team to score on the Cardinals in four games.

Boys Soccer: Mission 5, Marshall 0

The Bears (7-3-1) solidified their second-place standing in the Academic Athletic Association’s Y Division behind two goals from Marco Caballero.

Mission also got goals from Mario Ruiz-Reyes, Alvaro Veliz-Quinonez and Nelson Zencena-Martinez and kept the Phoenix (1-9) scoreless.

Girls Volleyball: Marin Academy 3, Lick-Wilmerding 0

Despite a 26-24, 25-23, 25-13 sweep, the Tigers (4-5, 1-3) got solid performances from Katie Waters, who had a team-high seven kills.

Brenda Young and Jessica Erlich also played well defensively with 10 digs apiece.
