It will be an exciting week for high school sports in San Francisco, with Turkey Day, basketball starting, Central Coast Section football playoffs continuing and the CIF State Championship girls volleyball playoffs beginning.

The brackets for the state tournament were released today, and Balboa, Sacred Heart Cathedral and St. Ignatius are all in the Division III bracket. University is in the Division V bracket, with North Coast Section rival Branson as the top seed.

We could have a City tilt in Division III if Balboa wins its play-in game against Enterprise, and the Bucs had some success against Sacred Heart early in non-league play, winning a game in a 25-15, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21 Irish win. Sacred Heart has the top seed in the Northern California region, while St. Ignatius will have to hit the road to take on Vista del Lago of Folsom.

Here are the full Division III and Division V NorCal brackets.

  1. Too bad Balboa and Enterprise have to play at SOTA, that has to be the worst floor in all of San Francisco.

    • Yeah, I was hoping it would be at Kezar. Must be a scheduling conflict, but I don’t see any HS basketball games there or any from Academy of Art, which also plays home games there.

    • Can we even call that a floor? It’s like a big old wrestling mat with a volleyball and basketball court drawn on it!

    • Congrats to Balboa! That floor/court is TERRIBLE, even for the several middle school VB games I’ve watched there. Don Collins should have done much better than that in finding a venue.

  2. Good job Bal! Send Enterprise home with a loss!!!!!

  3. So this is balboa’s play in match meaning they aren’t even in state champs yet? So if they win then they are considered in state and if they beat SH then they’ll be in semifinals right?
