Prep Wrapup: St. Ignatius boys basketball erases halftime deficit to beat Pinewood

Prep Wrapup is our new feature where we will hopefully provide a broad overview of the previous day’s action. Coaches, to contribute to the Prep Wrapup, please send scores and details the night of the game/event to or call our scores line at (415) 251-0918.

Boys Basketball: St. Ignatius 73, Pinewood 66

The Wildcats (2-3) trailed 36-34 to the previously-unbeaten Panthers (4-1) at the half, but after a pair of buckets by sophomore point guard Trevor Dunbar late in the third quarter, St. Ignatius took the lead and never surrendered it.

Dunbar finished with 13 points, while Pinewood senior Solomone Wolfgramm had a game-high 29 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.

Boys Basketball: Urban 65, Athenian 44

The Blues (3-1) only held a 28-20 lead over the Owls (4-2) at the half, but it was the strength of a solid third quarter, in which every Urban starter scored, that broke the game open.

Urban senior forward Julian Mataluch (20 points and 11 rebounds) and junior guard Nate Cohen (17 points and 10 rebounds) each had double-doubles, while the Blues’ defense was led paced by junior guard Harry Krinski, who had six steals.

  1. It sounds like Pinewood couldn’t deal with Trevor Dunbar’s SPEED & QUICKNESS.

Urban v Athenian was the first time that Nate, Julian, Matt and Harry played a full game together. Urban is 4-1 (the loss to St Joseph’s Alameda) and the wins are double digit. Nate has played in all five games averaging 17 points. Go Blues.

Pinewood led most of the game but Dunbar just broke them down way too many times. Pinewood’s big guy Solomone Wolfgramm was really good.
