Wrestling: Golden Gate Invitational
Washington and Riordan split second place out of a 39-team field in the Golden Gate Invitational on Saturday at Washington High School.
The Crusaders, ranked 12th in the Central Coast Section, were led by junior Zac Contreras (152 lbs.), who won all four of his matches and senior Julian Morrisette (182 lbs.) won three of four matches.
Riordan seniors Issam Hamdallah (160 lbs.), Deion Deng (220 lbs.) and Brandon Jew (106 lbs.) also won medals in the consolation brackets.
Girls Basketball: Washington 53, Mountain View 47
The Eagles (4-1) wrapped up the Terra Nova Tournament with a solid win over the Spartans (3-3), behind 14 points and six assists from senior guard Raelyn Cheung-Sutton, and 10 points and 13 rebounds from forward Phacharee Arunleung.
Boys Basketball: International 35, Athenian 30
The Jaguars’ defense (2-2) showed up in full effect on Tuesday against the Owls (4-4), but got their offense almost entirely from forwards Jacob Bogdanov and Alex Seutin.
Bogdanov, a senior, had a team-high 11 points, while Seutin, a sophomore, added 10.
Boys Basketball: St. Joseph Notre Dame 66, University 45
University (4-3) wrapped up a rough week with a loss to the Pilots (4-0), but the Red Devils actually led 27-23 at the half and only trailed by four at one point in the fourth quarter.
Junior guard James Burton had a team-high 17 points in the loss.
