Girls Basketball: Jewish Community 61, Downtown College Prep 23
The Wolves (2-3, 1-0) not only won their Private School Athletic League opener in dominating fashion, but got a record-setting performance from guard and captain Sophie Navarro.
The 5-foot-6 senior set a school record with 32 points as the Wolves rolled to victory over the Lobos (0-1). Junior guard Adi Alouf also had a solid game with 11 points, three assists and four rebounds.
Girls Basketball: University 66, College Prep 47
The Red Devils (6-1) extended their winning streak to six games behind another big performance from center Amelia King.
The 6-foot-1 senior scored 20 points — her fourth 20-point game of the season — while sophomore forward Kayla Symanovich added 10 points and sophomore guard Chloe Hoeber contributed six points, five assists and seven steals.
Boys Basketball: Jewish Community 61, San Francisco Christian 39
The Jewish Community boys (5-1, 1-0) also started their PSAL season on a high note, with a lopsided win over the Trojans (0-5, 0-1).
The Wolves were led by junior forward Anthony Gumberg, who had a game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds, while senior guard Grant Fineman had a double-double of his own with 10 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds. Jewish Community junior forward Michael Kostukovsky also contributed 15 points and six rebounds.
