Prep Wrapup: Urban and Mercy advance to Urban Shootout semifinals

Girls Basketball: Urban 61, Bay 36

The Blues (6-1) opened up a 23-5 lead in the first quarter, nearly gave up the lead in the second, then used a 19-6 run in the third quarter to send the Breakers (1-4) to the consolation bracket of the Urban Shootout.

Ten Urban players scored in the game, led by senior forward Jenna Waldman, who scored 15 points, and junior forward Charlotte Blanc, who added 13.

Bay freshman guard Michelle Chui scored 14 points to lead the Breakers, and senior guard Sophie Owens added 11.

Girls Basketball: Mercy 61, St. Vincent de Paul 33

Riding a high-pressure defense, the Skippers (7-0) led 35-17 at the half and pulled away even more in the second half to advance the the Urban Shootout semifinals.

Tallia Schivo, Mariah Masoli and Courtney Sabahi scored 16 points apiece in the win.

Boys Basketball: East Palo Alto 75, Jewish Community 47

The Wolves (5-2, 1-1) were overwhelmed by the Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0), but got solid performances from junior forward Anthony Gumberg (10 points, 11 rebounds) and senior point guard Grant Fineman (seven points, five assists and four rebounds).
