Games of the day – Galileo vs. Washington girls basketball: Both teams are 5-1 in AAA play and if the Lions want to stay within reach of Lowell in the Neff Division, a win over the Eagles is essential. Lick-Wilmerding vs. Urban boys basketball: Many thought the Tigers had a shot at being in first place in the BCL West at this point in the season, but the Blues are a bit of a surprise. The winner of this game will likely remain in a first-place tie with University. St. Ignatius vs. Sacred Heart Cathedral girls basketball: The Wildcats are riding high after their best win of the season over Mitty last week, but it would be unwise to overlook the Irish, which stand in third place in the WCAL standings. Boys Basketball: Fox does it all as Sacred Heart Cathedral cruises to beat Bellarmine

By Jeremy Balan

It wasn’t a banner night offensively for most on the floor at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday night.

That is, except for standout Sacred Heart forward Joshua Fox.

Fox was the only player on either team to score in double figures, with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds, as the Irish cruised to a 58-43 West Catholic Athletic League win over visiting Bellarmine.

Girls Basketball: Convent holds off International in exciting finish

By Josh Levine

After missing all 15 of its shots from the field in the first quarter, it appeared as if International High School would be blown out by visiting Convent on Saturday night.

Convent had a 15-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Jaguars came all the way back and sophomore Kassie Encinas hit a shot with 1:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to put the International up 48-47.

With only 13 seconds left, Convent’s Jaime Hum-Nishikado hit a running bank shot to take back the lead for good and the Cubs held on for a 49-48 non-league win.

Games of the day – Convent vs. University girls basketball: In the nightcap of the Bay Area Hoops Classic at International, the Jaguars host the Cubs in a matchup of arguably the best Division V girls teams in the City. Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. Bellarmine boys basketball: The Irish will look to hold serve on their home court after dropping their first WCAL game on the road to the Bells. Girls Basketball: Lowell pulls away with third-quarter run to take down Washington

By Josh Levine

If Friday night was a preview of the Academic Athletic Association girls basketball championship game, then Lowell High School should feel even better about its 47-35 win over rival Washington at Kezar Pavilion.

Both teams came into the game undefeated in AAA play and atop their respective divisions and are the favorites to reach the championship game for the second-consecutive year.
