Prep Wrapup is our new feature where we will hopefully provide a broad overview of the previous day’s action. Coaches, to contribute to the Prep Wrapup, please send scores and details the night of the game/event to or call our scores line at (415) 251-0918.

Boy Basketball: Stuart Hall 50, Woodside Priory 39

Despite shooting just 25 percent from the floor, the Knights (12-3) handed Piory (4-1) its first loss of the season to extend their own winning streak to eight games.

Senior guard Tim Connolly led the Knights with 17 points and has scored in double digits in all but two games this season, averaging a team-high 15.3 points and nearly three assists per game.

Wrestling: Riordan wins Oakland Tech tournament

The Crusaders entered 14 wrestlers in the tournament and took home seven individual championships, 13 medalists and the team title with 128 points in the 18-team tournament.

Senior Brandon Jew (106 pounds), sophomore Dante Biagini (126 pounds), junior Trevor Peralta (145 pounds), senior Issam Hamdallah (152 pounds), junior Martin Deschaumes (160 pounds), senior Julian Morrisette (182 pounds) and senior Deion Deng (220 pounds) all went undefeated and won tournament titles.

Girls Basketball: University 54, Waldorf 25

Freshman guard Katie Lo had a game-high 14 points, while senior center Amelia King added 13 points and sophomore guard Alana Zack scored 10, but it was a standout defensive effort that gave the Red Devils (12-1) their 12th-consecutive win.

University held the Wolverines (4-9) under 10 points in each quarter and Waldorf scored just 16 points after the first frame. Senior Alana Gurewitz led the Wolverines with 11 points.

With all the games being played this past week, and some huge games coming up this week, here is my take on the rankings that’ll be coming out from JB.

1.) SH- Showdown with SI for SF supremacy. Loss on the road to a Bellarmine team who pushed Mitty to OT, still #1 until THE GAME.

2.) SI- Held their own vs. Gordon and Co. before falling late and SH showdown leaves them at #2 for now.

3.) Riordan- Despite the issues on the Phelan campus, they lost to SI after trailing by 3 with 4 minutes to go and beat a 9-3 Valley Christian team on the road. Can’t drop them for playing these efforts.

4.) Stuart Hall- Suprise team who just keeps winning. Head to head win vs. Mission has them here.

5.) Mission- Bears are kicking into another gear and looked prime to run the AAA table. If they played S. Hall 10 times, they probably win 7 or 8, but as it is they’ve lost the only matchup.

6.) Lincoln- Went 1-1 last week with interesting games against Washington and Marshall this week.

7.) Lick Wilmerding- Lost only game played last week vs. an 11-5 Berean Christian team on the road. Stay here at #7 for now. University up next in a rivalry game.

8.) Lowell- Jump 2 spots as the Cardinal keep getting it done with 2 OT wins and don’t look to be challenged until the 18th.

9.) Gateway- Stay here at #9 with a 7 pt. win over Leadership last week. They are questionable and would probably lose head to head games vs. AAA schools Balboa and Galileo, but can’t drop them out of the rankings after their lone win.

10.) Washington- Gotta put em here riding a 3 game winning streak including a rout of Balboa. They will need to maintain the momentum as they have Marshall, Lincoln, and Mission this week.

    Bubble: Balboa, Galileo

After the BIG 3 WCAL schools, positions #4 to #10 will fluctuate back and forth as the season goes on. Mission and Stuart Hall will hover around their positions until they get knocked off, which I don’t see happening any time soon. For enjoyment purposes only so don’t get flustered if your school didn’t make it.

Forgot to mention University and Marshall as my other bubble teams. I’ve been on Marshall’s bandwagon since the beginning of the pre-season and I forgot to include them here. They have Washington and Balboa on the road, and end the week at home vs. Lincoln. I think they will go at least 2-1 this week and look to be a contender in the post season. I like rooting for the underdog, and this school is definitely one of them. Good luck Phoenix!

ALSO: International Girls 60, Waldorf 19 on Friday.

  2. Congrats to Stuart Hall, however, their win should be taken with a grain of salt. Yes, Priory was undefeated, however, they’ve only played five games compared to the 15 Stuart Hall played. The odds of winning were in Stuart Hall’s favor. Stuart Hall is having a great year thus far. Hopefully they can maintain their momentum.
