Prep Wrapup: Sacred Heart Cathedral boys tennis gets past University

Prep Wrapup is our new feature where we will hopefully provide a broad overview of the previous day’s action. Coaches, to contribute to the Prep Wrapup, please send scores and details the night of the game/event to or call our scores line at (415) 251-0918.

Boys Tennis: Sacred Heart Cathedral 6, University 1

The Irish (2-0) win looks dominant by the look of the match score, but the Red Devils (0-1) gave them all they could handle in the four singles matches.

Sacred Heart got singles wins from senior Clark Wininger (6-4, 7-5), freshman Donald Hall (7-6, 7-5) and junior Alexander Cocoles (1-6, 6-2, 10-6), but University got its only win from junior Lindsay Deffarges (3-6, 7-5, 13-11).

On the doubles side, however, the Irish won relatively easily with wins from Cole Caceres and Andy Rosenstein (7-6, 6-4), Christian Yun and Johnny Tran (6-4, 6-0), and Eugene Shekhtman and Eugene Cheng (6-0, 6-0).

I doubt that their athletic department is in a free fall. Their girls basketball team just beat Convent in the BCL West championship game.
