  1. Big congratulations to Sacred Heart Cathedral for winning the CCS D-III soccer championship. The first soccer title ever fo the IRISH!

    • Fantastic Stuff! congratulation’s to coach Wilson and his team! what a fantastic achievement. Jeff has built a program at our school that we can all be proud of. Wow boys and Girls basketball, a new record by the boys, four CCS titles in a row, I said it all year this is our time to win “State”

Yea ” Go Irish” the pride of San Francisco!

Tough one for SI girls, would have liked to see them take down Mitty, a young team with a bright future, still cant understand why they had to play up to division (2)?

  2. Ruckjames | March 3, 2012 at 3:43 PM |

2nd CCS championship for much maligned Mr Carey. I take back what I wrote in previous posts
Regarding SHC, congratulations to Mr. Carey, this proves that even if you have 3 Duv 1 players on your team
if they son’t play as a team they lose.

    • RuckJames, you can say the same as for the SI boys team, they have all the talent in the world this year and they could not win. Im talking about the boys not the girls…the SI girls played their hearts out.

  3. Minimal talent, and SHC girls basketball wins another CCS championship. And all the SHC supporters wanted the head coach fired? If anything, he should get a raise and a contract extension.

    • The coaching didn’t win the game nor did he play in the game. The girls put together a good run and the result of that was a championship.

  4. Uh, why isn’t Elijah White playing? I don’t think El Camino will win now without him in the lineup.

    • He was suspended from school. I can’t speak to why yet, because it’s mostly hearsay.

      • A Merc News tweet says he was suspended for setting off a fire alarm.

        • WCAL Alum | March 3, 2012 at 7:03 PM |

Are you serious. If so, that is a felony. He is fortunate if he only gets suspended for one game. A tough life lesson that will be hard to live down. Look, we all have done dumb things in retrospect, 99% of time we got away with it. Just imagine if somebody got hurt or an accident occured due to emergency personnel on way to school. Again, missing an opportunity to play in the most important game he will ever play in is a punishment in itself, but things could have or still be worst.

Congratulations to SHCP for a banner day (literally). That makes 4 CCS titles this school year with one runner-up.

          • I’m not sure what is worse: shoplifting or pulling a fire alarm. If a college tries to recruit Elijah White, they could be scared to offer him a scholarship now.

            • I was told by one of his AAU coaches that it was an accident. That he didn’t pull the fire alarm, but knocked into it, or something to that effect. I don’t know why that would warrant a suspension and I’m not in a position to speculate, but that’s what I was told.

              • Mr. officer, I didn’t touch that gorgeous swimsuit model inappropriately, someone bumped me into her.

              • merkinworld | March 4, 2012 at 9:01 AM |

I was told by an EC faculty member at the game that the police got involved and the school felt they needed to take some action, their hands were tied so to speak.

  5. Congrats to the Sacred Heart Cathedral Girls! Awesome job! You proved the critics wrong! Love it! You see, you don’t have to have an all star team to win a championship! Teamwork and dedication wins games.

  6. Josh Fox is playing. Only two points so far. Freshman David Parsons is playing. He has two points so far. Irish ahead 45-24 at the half.

  7. Irish win 70-53. That’s three CCS championships in one day. Great day for the Irish!

Congrats to SHC soccer team and to Jonathan Rojas who I believe scored both goals. I think he wound up as the leading scorer for the WCAL this year as well. Great run for the Irish, and quite a day for SHC today.

Congrats to SHCP boys soccer with first CCS title in SHCP history. Literally a home game for the other team which was from Castroville, and game was in Gilroy.Very hostile environment for SHCP. The announcement
of the players was hilarious. All the Hispanic names were pronounced perfect. The SHCP non-Latino Player’s name were absolutely butcherered. Big shouts out to goalie Connor Anderson who had several key saves and forward Johnny Rojas who had the two goals. Shout out to the rest of the team who all played hard and pretty much resisted the taunts of the other team and fans.

What a day for the Irish !. The CCS will hopefully know who we are now, not the Gators.
A great team effort, who played hard for each other. Dash made the first goal and William the second, for Johnny’s goals. The Defense played their heart out. I was so proud of our young men, and our support, which provided necessary encouragement when needed. This is a big deal for SHC, and a a job well done by all a coaches, in recognition of hard work, in bringing our players along to make this day possible.

montery herald has a nice article on the soccer game.

        • Soccer Dad | March 4, 2012 at 9:59 PM |

Thanks for the info. I visited the news paper site, and contributed to their comments section.

      • Soccer Dad | March 5, 2012 at 9:24 AM |

Sorry, it was Oscar that made Johnny’s second goal, as the video on You-Tube shows.
Apologies to Oscar for getting this wrong in all my excitement.

    • Try this on for size: Sacred Heart Cathedral was the only WCAL soccer team to win a CCS title this season. Not champ St. Francis, Mitty, SI or Serra. Bellarmine wasn’t even in it… (When did that happen last?).

  10. Fox looked pretty solid out there for the most part. He’s obviously still a bit gimpy on that ankle, and limping a few times running back down the court. Taylor Johns picked up a lot of ticky tack fouls throughout and fouled out in the 4th quarter but the games was already decided by then. SHC shot the lights out in the first and second quarters. I thought EC played well to be only down 20 by half. James, Petroni and Pratt all played really well.

I thought the officiating was horrendous tonight. It looked like the referees were all El Camino alums as the Irish suffered from some really bad calls.

    • merkinworld | March 4, 2012 at 9:07 AM |

well said. agree with you. fox looked good, johns got screwed , officiating was terrible, and el camino is a tough team. i would have liked to see them at full strength they might have made it closer. They were not afraid to bang down low. They can win a nor-cal game if they get a favorable match up.

  11. Didn’t SHC girls varsity from 05-09 win four CCS titles in a row?

    • I was only looking at the boys side. I view the two as two different sports.

    • If I’m not mistaken, the girls won CCS D-3 titles from 2000-2004; D-4 titles in 2005 and 2006, then D-3 titles in 2007, 2008 and again in 2011 and 2012.

  12. Mini Hoops | March 3, 2012 at 11:14 PM |

Congrats to the SHC girls’ for winning their 2nd CCS back 2 back. Also thank you Coach Burke for all the work & help that you’ve done with the girls’ to help them win. Your presence on the bench is truly appreciated by the girls. You deserve recognition. They won becuz of all your help. Thank you Coach Tim Burke!

  13. WOW! I can’t believe all these parents complaining about a coach that has won CCS twice in a row, and some even giving the credit to another coach on the staff. I know most SHC girls parents don’t agree with Coach Carey but recognize you have a coach that wins some big games. Leave the off the court issues OFF THE COURT, because on the court he has two CCS titles in a row being underdogs. Lets support all the girls and coaches! At least until the seasons over.

  14. Hey JB, do you know if the CCSF Women won last night?

  15. Bonta Hill | March 4, 2012 at 10:34 AM |

CCSF women lost 82-75 to Fresno City.
