Prep Wrapup: Riordan baseball holds on to beat beat El Camino

Prep Wrapup is our new feature where we will hopefully provide a broad overview of the previous day’s action. Coaches, to contribute to the Prep Wrapup, please send scores and details the night of the game/event to or call our scores line at (415) 251-0918.

Baseball: Riordan 7, El Camino 6

The Crusaders (6-1) spotted the Colts (3-2-1) three runs in the first inning, but responded in the bottom of the second with five runs, capped by a pair of two-RBI singles from junior second baseman Matt Melendez and senior first baseman Eduardo Santos. Riordan extended its lead to 7-3 and took a 7-4 advantage into the final inning, but the Colts got two more runs off Riordan starter Jorge Navarro to chase him from the game and senior right-hander Sean Donovan came in to get the final three outs and the save. Navarro didn’t have his best outing and allowed five earned runs on six hits, but still got the win and pushed his record to 3-0.

Soccer: Lowell 4, Jordan 0

The Cardinals (4-1, 3-0) again shut out a Academic Athletic Association opponent for the third time this season and got two goals from senior Bailey Armstrong, plus two solo goals from Annie Corkery and Joanna You, to take down the Jaguars (0-3, 0-3).
