Prep Wrapup: Blea’s effort not enough for Riordan baseball in loss to St. Francis

Prep Wrapup is our new feature where we will hopefully provide a broad overview of the previous day’s action. Coaches, to contribute to the Prep Wrapup, please send scores and details the night of the game/event to or call our scores line at (415) 251-0918.

Baseball: St. Francis 9, Riordan 0

Not much went well for the Crusaders (7-4, 1-2) on the road against the Lancers (11-0, 3-0) in West Catholic Athletic League play, but senior Jacob Blea gave Riordan a chance. In his first start of the season, Blea held the nationally-ranked Lancers to three runs through five innings. He pitched a complete game and allowed four earned runs (five unearned), striking out three.

The star of the game was undoubtedly St. Francis starter John Gavin, who threw six no-hit innings, struck out 12 Riordan batters and combined with a reliever to complete the no-hitter.
