Baseball: Riordan 6, Mitty 5 (8 innings)
At first, it looked like so many other Riordan baseball games in recent history.
The Crusaders (8-5, 2-3) trailed 5-0 after the fourth inning against visiting Mitty (4-6, 1-4), but this year is different for the City West Catholic Athletic League teams.
Riordan scored six unanswered runs to end the game, capped by a bases-loaded, two-out hit-by-pitch by Eduardo Santos that drove in the game-winning run. Matt Craig walked, Chris Davis reached base on an error and Nick Hovland singled to load the bases in the eighth.
The Crusaders also trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but sent the game to extra innings on a bases-loaded walk from Chris Trigueiro and a two-RBI single from Anthony Ramirez.
Riordan senior pitcher Jacob Blea pitched all eight innings to collect the win and only allowed two earned runs off eight Mitty hits.
Baseball: Washington 8, Denver Christian 5
The Eagles (10-8) went 2-1 in the Coach Bob Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. and were the runner up in the A Division of the tournament.
Junior Chris Hau and senior Avery Velasco both had two hits against the Crusaders (5-4) and Hau was named to the all-tournament team, mostly for his pitching performance. He collected a win and a save in the tournament.
Girls Soccer: Jewish Community 2, Waldorf 0
Both of the Wolves’ (2-1) goals came from sophomore Sophia Gluck and were assisted by senior Sophie Navarro.
