Baseball: Sacred Heart Cathedral 1, Serra 0

The Irish (8-4, 1-4) have had their share of tough-luck losses in early West Catholic Athletic League play, but doled one out against the Padres (4-8, 0-5) on Friday at Moscone Recreation Center.

Sacred Heart junior starting pitcher Mike Wallace threw a complete-game shutout, struck out six Serra batters, and allowed four hits and four walks.

Senior third baseman Chris Miguel drove in the only run on a ground out in the fourth inning. Miguel’s RBI scored sophomore second baseman Brett Rasso, who doubled earlier in the inning.

The Padres had a chance to tie or take the lead in the fifth with the bases loaded and one out, but Miguel scooped up a hard ground ball and turned a 5-4-3 double play to end the threat.
