Game of the day – Balboa vs. Lowell baseball: The Cardinals have finished first or second in the AAA’s A Division in the past two seasons, but have been knocked out of the playoffs before the league championship game each year. Their last playoff loss was to the Bucs last season and Balboa will look to continue the trend. We’ll also try to provide updates on the Marshall-Washington semifinal as much as possible. Surprising upset Balboa beating Lowell. Maybe next time, be more concerned about your next opponent (Balboa) than a coin flip. What time will the championship game be at AT&T Park on Saturday? After the Giants game is over?

  2. afan says:

Aww c’mon give Balboa some credit. It wasn’t all that surprising that Balboa won today, even if Lowell was deemed the “the overwhelming favorite to meet the Eagles in the AAA championship game”. The previous two games between Bal and Lowell were close, in the first game Bal blew a 5 run lead and in the second game Lowell won it in the bottom of the 7th inning.
    Balboa wins the clutch games.

Is this the last game for John Donohue? A fine coach and mentor to his kids, if so. Though I have to admit, I will not miss the chatter at ATT this weekend.

    • JJ says:

Yea, the “overwhelming favorite to meet the Eagles in the AAA championship game” comment threw me off. So I guess we will have a rematch of last year’s championship game. Hopefully, BAL takes it because I like rooting for the underdog. Kinda amazing that Lowell hasn’t made the championship game for the past 4 years, since they are normally one of the pre-season favorites to win it all.

Way to go Bucs! Great pitching by Alex and Lowell’s pitcher was superb as well. Beat those dirty birds on Saturday.

  4. Reader says:

Congratulations to Balboa. Good luck in the final. I’m not surprised by this outcome at all. Yes, Lowell does have more talent than other AAA teams but every time I’ve watched them, they played a lazy unprepared game. I don’t know if is arrogance of the players or poor coaching, but they always underachieve. I didnt see the game. Was that the case today?

    • bleacher creature says:

Congratulations to Lowell on a very good season of baseball with a disappointing end.

  5. Joe Payongayong says:

Good job Balboa, hope you win it all on Saturday! Coach Tom I remember you from Burton days.
    Aloha- Joe Payongayong

    Go Bucs!
