Baseball: St. Francis 4, Riordan 1

The eighth-seeded Crusaders (12-15) saw their season end at the hands of the nationally-ranked Lancers (24-3-1), but they gave the West Catholic Athletic League’s top seed a momentary scare in the first round of the league playoffs on Tuesday at St. Francis in Mountain View.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, when St. Francis junior first baseman Hunter Simmons put the Lancers on the board with a RBI single.

St. Francis added three runs in the sixth and Riordan got a run in the top half of the seventh when Chris Trigueiro scored on a wild pitch. The Crusaders got the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh, but St. Francis reliever Braden Bishop struck out the final two Riordan batters to end the threat.

How does CCS work for baseball? Are Riordan and SH out? What type of record do you need to qualify?
