Boys Soccer: University 2, Gateway 0
The second-seeded Red Devils (15-6-2) took their time, but eventually broke through to beat the 15th-seeded Gators (11-7-2) in the first round of the North Coast Section Division II playoffs.
University junior Wyatt Kim broke a scoreless tie in the 68th minute with a free-kick strike from just beyond the penalty area, then senior Sam Reyes gave the Red Devils some breathing room with a goal in the 77th. University goalkeeper Jack Wilson had three saves to secure the shutout.
University will host No. 7 seed Calistoga in the second round on Saturday.
Boys Soccer: Drew 2, Archbishop Hanna (Sonoma) 0
Junior forward Richard Leon had a goal and an assist to send the the fifth-seeded Dragons (12-7-1) to the second round of the NCS Division III playoffs.
Charlie Boone struck first on an assist from Leon in the 20th minute to give Drew a 1-0 lead. Leon then put the game out of reach from the 12th-seeded Hawks (14-4-1), with a chip-in goal in the 72nd minute.
The Dragons will take on Leadership in the second round Saturday in a rematch of the Bay Counties League Central championship game.
