Prep Wrapup: SI boys cross country wins CCS championship, Hacker takes individual girls title

Cross Country: CCS Division III championship

With a team score of 64 (lowest score wins) the St. Ignatius boys cross country team won its second straight Central Coast Section Division III title on Saturday at Toro Park in Salinas.

The Wildcats edged second-place finisher Aptos (70 points) behind fourth and fifth place finishes by seniors Ciaran Murphy (16 minutes, 14 seconds) and Patrick Cummins (16:16). Freshman Kevin Lehr also finished in the top 10 (10th, 16:26).

In the D-III girls race, the second-place Wildcats finished well behind champion Aptos, but junior Kendall Hacker won the individual title with a time of 18:29 – 5 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral teams also had solid outings and both finished third in the D-III race. Junior Brendan Foti led the Irish boys with an 11th-place finish (16:34) and the girls were led by senior Kellie Redmond, who finished 12th (19:44).
