Boys Soccer: Riordan 2, El Camino (South San Francisco) 0

It was almost five six years, to the day, since the Crusaders (1-0) last won a game when they took the field against El Camino at the Crocker Amazon Soccer Fields on Saturday.

But behind goals from juniors Ryan Castillo and Melkim Vega, Riordan broke its 122-game winless streak, as well as a 31-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Colts (0-1).

Riordan’s last win prior to Saturday was a 2-1 victory over Westmoor on Nov. 30, 2007 2006.

Girls Basketball: Convent 53, Head-Royce (Oakland) 44

The Cubs (3-1) bounced back from a season-opening loss to Galileo by winning the Marin Academy Invitational tournament championship, capped by a victory on Saturday over the Jayhawks (3-1).

Junior guard Jaime Hum-Nishikado scored a team-high 26 points in the tournament championship game and senior point guard Isabella Borges was the only other Convent player to score in double figures with 11 points.

The Cubs also defeated Athenian and Branson in the tournament, and Hum-Nishikado led them in scoring in each game. She averaged 19.7 points per game in the tournament.

  1. Jeremy,

Are you sure the last win wasn’t November 2006?

  2. Holy crap! They should get a day off for that.

  3. Unfortunately, the Riordan’s boys soccer winning streak ended today @ one.
