  1. The copy on my alma mater’s fall sports review is enough to make puke, but of course it has to sound homer-ish. The excerpt reads:

“In his 9th season as head coach, John Lee ’84 led the Fightin’ Irish to within 1 point of the second consecutive CCS Division III playoff berth. The team beat Archbishop Riordan High School in the Stanfel Cup to retain the cup for the 5th straight year. In that game, Brett Rasso ’14 tied a school record, rushing for five touchdowns. Rasso was the offensive MVP for the team this year, with Kelvin Sanders ’13 taking home the honor for the defense.”

Rasso: Outstanding. Great heart. Thankfully you didnt get your head taken off or have any broken bones. We’ll need you for baseball if we have any small chance in retaining the BM.

Sanders: Tough as nails. I hope he gets a shot at the next level somewhere.

As for John Lee: In his 9th season as head coach, John Lee ’84 led the Fightin’ Irish to within 1 point of the second consecutive CCS Division III playoff berth. [With a declining number of players due to his dictator-like and lack of play calling imagination coaching style, John Lee recorded two lowly wins as head coach].

Led or the word leading is usually reserved for situations when someone or something is heading towards a positive direction or outcome. If he LEADS SHC one more season, you will see SHC football roster emulate a Marshall-like 2012 season.

  2. SI loses @ home ?!? Is Westmoor that good or is SI that bad? Any details? I guess Friday’s Riordan @ Westmoor will be an interesting matchup.

    • I think Trevor Dunbar got hit in the family jewels which extremely limited his mobility in the 4th quarter and overtime. Also, MacLean-Vernic was in street clothes. It seemed like the two teams were about even, but SI should’ve won the game as they missed an easy layup in regulation.

  3. I am curious to read SFP’s write up on the SI game. I’m surprised they lost. Is Westmoor a good team or is SI bad?

  4. Man, the Westmoor basketball program has been on a roll lately including the boys winning tonight @ SI & the girls winning the Lady Mustangs Holiday Classic @ Lincoln just last week. Also, I feel kinda bad about SI’s Troy Rike missing that potential GW lay up.

Finally, I saw some Riordan hoops coaches attending tonight’s game @ SI.

Wow. SI lost to Westmoor?! Happy times for the undefeated Rams. That will come to a crushing halt against the Crusaders though. I take back what I said JB about your rankings needing to have the three WCAL schools 1-2-3.

  6. If I remember correctly, didn’t the Westmoor Boys Varsity coach used to coach at Serra for Frosh or JV’s? I remember officiating him during some Frosh or JV’s when Serra played SI. This would explain why he has his Westmoor team go up against SI and/or Riordan.

  7. According to MaxPreps, SHC men’s team beat Hillsdale 68-55.

  8. Congrats to JCHS (Jewish Community, as they are known here) on the strong win against Leadership! The Wolves are off to a great start this season and hopefully they can make some waves in the PSAL. Seniors Michael Kostukovsky and Anthony Gumberg are definitely two of the strongest players in the city. Let’s go Wolves!

  9. Hmmmmm. SI is ranked #4 while Carondelet is ranked around #8 in the Chron Top 20, and SHC girls lost by 20?

    • ralphspecter | December 5, 2012 at 11:39 AM |

Remember SHC is unranked, SI lost to ST. Mary’s by 20, and St. Mary’s is 3 , SI’s 4 so what’s your point? Carondelet beating an unranked SHC by twenty is not surprising considering SI and St. Mary’s are closely ranked SI should not lose by 20, right?

      • I agree. SHC wasn’t ranked anywhere this year. What is your point JJ? I only hope the SI girls team has better looking uniforms than the boys.

      • Based solely on the final scores, SI losing by 20 to the #3 ranked team compared to SHC losing by 20 to the 8th ranked team means that SI is still better than SHC. A computer module would probably have SI beating SHC by 6 if they played today.

    • An unranked SHC girls varsity defeated #14 Deer Valley by 11 and # 4 SI defeated #9 eastside college prep wit h only 7 girls in the roster by 8 .
Which game is more significant then? SHC I think have ECP on their schedule [not certain] so let’s see how they do against #9. I expect SHC girls to climb up the rankings in the chronicle pretty soon.

Coach Blythe is an excellent coach, having 7 players in the roster and only lose to Si by 8 say a lot about the coaching.

  10. SHC box score from the Merc.

    SHC 20‚ 13 ‚ 17‚ 18 68
    Hillsdale 13‚ 14‚ 8‚ 20 55

    Otis 4-6-15,
    Parson 1-0-3,
    O’Leary 3-0-6,
    Hart 1-0-2,
    James 4-6-15,
    Davison 2-0-4,
    Jackson 2-1-6,
    O’Reilly 8-2-18
    Totals 25-15-68.

Deandre and Liam having big games! JBalan do you know the whereabouts of Herman Pratt? Is he injured or did he not score in the game?

    • Don’t know. I saw a tweet from him last night that gave me the impression he was very frustrated, so I would guess the latter.

  11. On Tues. 12/4, Mercy lost big to South SF in non-league girls soccer 12-1.
