Game of the Day – Mission vs. University boys basketball: The teams may appear to be going in different directions early in the season – the Bears are winless and the Red Devils are one of the best Division V squads in the Bay Area – but this matchup is always fast-paced, high-scoring and exciting. Why don’t teams (SH) use Maxpreps to update rosters and stats? Is this due to the coach being new or does he not see the value of posting stats?

Will there be coverage of that SH vs ESP game on Sanfranpreps or just the SI games? It was an important game!

  3. SHC girls lost to an undermanned eastside college prep team, I guess they re not just there yet
or had a bad game. I’m still hoping they will pull an upset ce Jan.

  4. I was at the game and it looked really bad for SHC, I don’t understand the subsituation pattern. The coach plays too many girls who don’t belong on varsity in the first place. What happened to trying to win a game by playing your best 8 and the others play when the situation arises. The girls couldn’t get a rythem and all eastside did was play zone all game. The best shooters for SHC were on the bench too much and I didn’t see a true point guard either. I hope the best for SHC but the coach better wake up and train them harder cause many girls were breathing hard and eastside only suited up 7 players and they ran harder and didn’t look winded. This is not CYO SHC only play the top 8…Good luck kids.

    • Didn’t see the SHC game but when you’re a new coach, you might not know your players that well immediately. I’d have to check their schedule. but if they played their best 8 and blew out teams, they wouldn’t learn much of anything.

Plus it’s pre-season. You give some kids a chance to show what they got. You might find some hidden gems. I’d cut the coach some slack until WCAL play starts.

By the 6th game of the season you should have developed a rotation. The ESCP game was a game the could have won, if he plays his rotation and works other players in.

What happen to the backcourt? How can the team gel together if you don’t have a consistent backcourt that runs the team and knows their roles. It seems late to be still figuring things out.

They will not compete with SI or Mitty playing this way.

        • Coach Russell is a good coach and knows what he is doing! The ESCP game was game that they could win easily but as the other posters said
this might be a feeling out game against a pretty good team and well coached too! (coach Blythe)SHC have enough players to compete Againts top tier teams in the WCAL. That said they have a few more games before league games, and probably we will see the real rotation in the upcoming games.

I thought the point was to win the game! You can play to win and still feel out. You play a cupcake preseason , which makes it look like the CYO strategies work, and then you play Carondalet and ESCP and get out coached. Its time to play your studs and stop wasting time. When the coach played for Sacred Heart or USF did they play 13 players? Doesn’t make sense!

From listening to these guys, you’d think Mike Carey was still coaching @ SH. There’s a point when maybe you should look in the mirror and notice your expectations are ridiculous. This guy hasn’t even been coaching for two months and he’s already public enemy #1. How about giving the man some time?

      • Basketball Fan | December 13, 2012 at 2:33 PM |

What does your comment mean? First of all referencing Coach Carey ( what are you implying) and then stating that Coach Russell is being posed as “Public Enemy Number 1”? How about concentrating on the here and now and not starting the bad mouthing. GO IRISH!!! Good luck Coach Russell!

        • I took those comments to mean that Coach carey was unfairly bashed on here and now the new coach is already being unfairly bashed. I believe he was not bad mouthing the coaches but the fair weather fans of SHC girls basketball.

You completely misinterpreted my comment. I’m criticizing the people already crying about how SH’s new coach isn’t making the right decisions. I brought up Carey to make the point that nothing has changed. People need to lay off of the new coach and actually have realistic expectations for the SH girls.

          • Basketball Fan | December 13, 2012 at 2:49 PM |

Totally agree and thank you for the clarification. I think time needs to take place and people need to relax and give Coach Russell and the team a chance to gel. Thank you for clarifying.
            GO IRISH!
The bashing just hurts and we need to be about supporting our young people.

Tierra Rogers is not walking though that door! Kiki Moore is not walking through that door!

You cannot seriously expect LyRyan to make this a state champion in his first year. Thats just ridiculous. Finishing in the top 4 in league and winning D3 CCS I would say is a successful season. Get off his back and stop treating him like he’s Mike Carey.

@Ari my brother……I love all this SHC on SHC violence!

      • Basketball Fan | December 13, 2012 at 8:52 PM |

And many of us hate it. The bashing and talking trash about any of the coaches and girls is unacceptable. No wonder great coaches give it all up – lack of support. And Ari Gold – have some respect too.

        • What are you referring to in particular? I just defended LyRyan? And youre calling me disrespectful?
