Boys Basketball: Riordan 83, Balboa 38

It didn’t take long to find out the Buccaneers (4-4) were outmatched in Crusader Forum.

The Crusaders (5-0) dominated the Bucs in each of the first three quarters to take a 74-29 lead into the fourth. Riordan had four players finish in double figures, led by 11 points apiece from senior guards Usman Hameed and A. J. Padrones. Juniors Bobby Arenas and Jiday Ugbaja added 10 points apiece. Riordan also outrebounded Balboa 39-22 and shot just over 51 percent from the floor.

The Bucs shot 33 percent from the field, but got solid contributions from sophomore guards Sam Esser and Kevin Neumann, who each had nine points.

Boys Basketball: Drew 48, SFI 42

The Dragons (2-6) trailed the Huskies (0-1) 33-28 after the third quarter, but key steals by Kyle Kabasares and Eddy Poot spurred a 20-point fourth frame and a comeback win.

Kabasares scored 13 points and sophomore guard Charlie Boone put in a team-high 19 points for Drew.

  1. Just some facts says:

Mabray and Gilleran sat out most of the game and the Juniors and other Seniors played most of the game. They did a great job and proved that Riordan has talent and depth.

Balboa players also deserve praise – they did not give up and pushed throughout the game and have some raw talent to be polished – and they had a lot of supporters present too – routing them on. Good to see.
