Boys Basketball: Riordan 75, Hercules 46

The Crusaders (8-0) appear to be the runaway favorite in the South San Francisco Tournament and looked like it against the Titans (9-4) in the first round on Thursday.

Riordan shot 62 percent from the field and 43 percent from three point range, led 27-8 after the first quarter and got a game-high 21 points from junior Bobby Arenas on 6-of-8 shooting (3-of-6 from three-point range). Senior forward Christian Hernandez also had a solid contribution with 19 points and seven rebounds.

The rest of the normal Riordan starters had positive all-around performances. Senior point guard Geru Mabrey scored nine points, doled out five assists and swiped six steals. Senior center Graham Gilleran scored nine points, took in five rebounds and had four assists. Junior forward Zach Masoli brought in a game-high eight rebounds and scored four points.
