  1. JJ says:

Attendance will be down for tonight’s basketball games due to a football game in the Bayview District.

  2. Irish Eyes says:

I hope all the Haters that chased Mike Carey away from SHC were happy with the game tonight. Russell was completely out coached by Harrigan. Russell made no adjustments at against an SF team that really isn’t that good. Hope y’all are Happy.

    • IC Stars says:

Not really. It would have helped matters if SHC made more than four FG’s in the second half.

    • JJ says:

Didn’t go to the game, but if Summers-Lualuu is contained or has a bad game, you have a great chance to beat the Irish, as they really don’t have another scoring threat besides her. I’m glad the Irish lost, though, as I think Carey shouldn’t have been canned also.

      • justsayin says:

Mike Carey’s departure was handled poorly by the SH administration, however, I strongly believe he wasn’t a good fit for the SH program. Coach LyRyan is just what the doctor ordered, yet people are still not happy. The main reason Summers-Lualua is the lone standout on the SH team is because she’s the only one that actually makes things happen. The seniors are disciplined but lack the ability finish. The juniors have talent but no discipline, and the younger girls are a work in progress. Winning a big game like the Bruce Mahoney and falling short to St. Francis is a sign that when the Irish play as a team, they win as a team.

        • Basketball Fan says:

So Coach Carey devotes many years to the program and he is not a good fit? Are you questioning his coaching the last few years as a varsity coach? I witnessed the SHCP vs SF game and could not get a handle on the offense or defense that was being used. The team looks unstructured and lacking cohesion. As far as the SHCP vs SI game, both teams looked scattered and SHCP just happened to come out ahead.

          • justsayin says:

In my opinion Coach Carey was not a good fit for the type of style the Varsity team is used to playing. I’m not questioning his ability to coach, simply it was not a good fit. I agree, the team does lack consistency at times even under new management, that is why I said when they play as a team they win as a team. But in my honest opinion, from what I’ve seen the girls are responding better to their new Coach. It’s just an opinion, not a statement.

  3. Big guy 24 says:

Coach Russell needs to figure out his best 8 players and stick to that rotation period. He plays too many girls and their’s no fluidness or go to player. Play to win the game SHC not keep parents happy about there kids playing time. This is not CYO coach Russell. Your best 8 only!!

  4. IC Stars says:

Irish boys team beat St. Francis the way they should have won on Tuesday. They hit 22 of 26 from the line.

  5. E. K. says:

Can’t find the SI score anywhere…

  6. JJ says:

Does anyone think the Valley Christian boys basketball team will win a game in WCAL, or will they go 0-14?

    • Paul B. says:

W/o Jay MacIntyre, they might go winless in league play this year in my opinion.

    • IC Stars says:

From the looks of that 60-51 SI win over VC, it looks like it was too close for comfort.

      • Just some facts says:

Yeah, no comments from SI fans/posters as to how that game was so close. Waiting to hear…

      • Just some facts says:

Here is J Balan’s story from Riordan vs VC:

“Boys Basketball: Riordan 67, Valley Christian 28

It didn’t take long for the Crusaders (10-2, 1-1) to put their WCAL-opening loss to St. Ignatius behind them.

Riordan jumped out to a 20-2 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Warriors (5-7, 0-2) in every following quarter to coast to victory at Crusader Forum.

Junior transfer guard Frankie Ferrari led the Crusaders with a team-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor (3-of-6 from three-point range) and 13 other Riordan players scored. Bobby Arenas and Chiefy Ugbaja added eight points apiece, and Jiday Ugbaja had seven.

Defensively, the Crusaders limited Valley Christian to 27 percent shooting from the floor and forced the Warriors into 29 turnovers. Stephen Ellis and Chris Hawkins led the Warriors in scoring with six points apiece.”

What is the story of the 60-51 win of SI over VC? 9 point difference?

        • Just some facts says:

BTW all of Riordan’s bench played in the vC game except the one player on injury (Karim)

        • JJ says:

Not that many people went to the SI-VC game due to the 49er game, therefore, no one has a game summary for you. But based on SI’s season so far, SI most likely led for most of the game, and played down to their competition, enabling VC to make the game somewhat closer than expected OR Valley Christian played well, shot well from the field, and made the game relatively close.

    • Uncle Frank says:

I think VC soon will be. or should be, reconsidering their decision to join the WCAL.

Currently, their 4 boys basketball teams and 2 girls teams (they don’t have a frosh team) have a combined WCAL record of 1-25. Only the freshmen A boys have a victory.

      • jbalan says:

They’ve had plenty of success in football, recently won a girls volleyball CCS championship (over Sacred Heart) and have 10 WCAL titles (more than Sacred Heart). I doubt they will leave the WCAL just because they aren’t any good in one sport.

        • Lance says:

Uncle Frank are you kidding? Valley has been very good in WCAL in most sports. They are down in Basketball, but check their records since joining the WCAL. They will be an early favorite in football in 2013. Remember. Football is king.

          • JJ says:

Too early to call Valley Christian the favorite in football for 2013. Who’s their new QB? Their best player will also graduate this year, the Severson guy, who I think got a scholarship to SJSU. But yea, Valley Christian is not an embarassment to the WCAL at all.

            • Billy says:

Is it certain that Mcintire will not be coming back? I know his dad is off to Colorado, but his son may stay in San Jose to finish his senior year. Also, VC is losing Severson but will be returning a number of good players. They had a losing WCAL record but hung tough. By the end of the year no one wanted to play them. A lot of football tradition there. They will be one of the favorites in 2013 no question.

      • IC Stars says:

I double-checked the WCAL site. VC does have a Frosh B team this season. They’re winless but they have a team.

        • Uncle Frank says:

I was being a bit facetious about dropping out. Still, how does a school who has such a accomplished sports program have one sport be so so bad? How does the AD not address this issue?

VC has all four level of boys’ basketball. They don’t have a girls’ freshmen team: A or B.

      • BIGRICH says:

The score at VC and SHCP was 33-54 IRISH won

  7. Purple hammer says:

    Cmon riordan finish

    • wcalsf says:

Pretty hard to catch up w the rest of the WCAL when you add 2 new starters and subs to your rotation. Games ate close the past few games and now the Crusaders need to grab the win when it’s within reach. SHC game on Wed will be critical.

      • Purple hammer says:

They gotta Break through, these almost preformances are not cutting it, aost doesnt win championships, they gotta find a way to get it done

  8. Paul B. says:

This past Sat. 1/12 in WBAL Skyline girls soccer, both Mercy & Harker (San Jose) finished in a 1-1 tie.
