Per Mitch from SFGate some more clarity to the Open Division:

If all holds true, SH girls could be playing for D3 State title this year with all BOD and St. Mary’s moved up to Open.

It sounds like if SHC has a better record overall or ranking than Bellarmine at the end of the WCAL season, they will be in the Open Division? Where’s De La Salle?

      • Ari Gold says:

Its a committee JJ, so not all set in stone. There will be alot of lobbying for the last two in. DLS can easily replace Bellarmine. Either way, I think the committee will pick the team(s) that have the best chance of winning against the top seeds, not just who is more deserving or having the better season.

All this just so the public schools can stop crying about not being able to compete and win championships in their sections versus the private schools. Well they got their wish.

SHC meets the criteria in regard to sectional titles correct? ARHS and SI do not as SHC won CCS several years strait.

          • Ari Gold says:

Yes, SHC is back to back CCS D3 champs. They meet that criteria. I do wonder if the committee factors in that this year’s team is doesnt have the same pieces as the last two years.

Riordan is going to be in D4, unless they run the table and finish in top 4 WCAL. They will likely be in Open CCS, but not in Open NorCal.

SI would likely be in D3 CCS and NorCal. I think the committee will look at the body of work for this season and feel there are a couple teams that have a better chance of upsetting some of the higher seeds than SI.
