Boys Volleyball: Sacred Heart Cathedral defeats Mt. Madonna to seal first CCS title
By Jeremy Balan
SAN JOSE – The Sacred Heart Cathedral boys volleyball team was letting top-seeded Mt. Madonna back in the match.
After Sacred Heart won the first game of the Central Coast Section Division II championship with relative ease, Mt. Madonna led 20-13 in the second, but suddenly, the Hawks couldn’t get the ball past the Irish block.
Spurred by a stretch of six point-scoring blocks, the Irish went on a 12-3 run to end the game and took a commanding two-game lead, then finished off Mt. Madonna in the third to seal a 25-16, 25-23, 25-19 win on Tuesday at Independence High School.
Baseball: Washington completes Transbay sweep with victory over Oakland Tech
By Zack Farmer
The Washington High School baseball team found itself in the same position this time last season.
It had won the opener of the Transbay Series against Oakland Tech and went into the second game with a chance to claim its first inter-section title since 2006.
The Eagles failed to get the job done a year ago, but did not let the opportunity slip away again.
Behind a strong performance from junior Christopher Hau on the mound and at the plate, Washington was able to avenge its 2011 Transbay loss by scoring four runs in the first inning and three more in the fourth to beat Oakland Tech 7-4 on Tuesday at San Francisco State University, sweeping the best-of-three series.

Madonna boys volleyball: To win their first CCS title in school history, the Irish will take on one of the smallest schools in the section. Mt. SAN RAFAEL – The Bay Counties League West girls soccer championship had to come to an end at some point and University High School junior goalkeeper Karyll Davis played the role of game-ender against Urban on Friday at Marin Academy.

Boys Volleyball: Lowell takes down defending-champ Galileo to win 7th AAA title
By Zack Farmer
Unlike many of Lowell High School’s teams in other sports, the boys volleyball squad was aware that they were an underdog heading into the Academic Athletic Association title game against defending-champ Galileo on Friday night at Lincoln High School.
The Cardinals used that to their advantage and after dropping the first game, swept the final three to beat Galileo 22-25, 29-27, 25-22, 31-29 and claim their seventh league title.
