Fundraising Update: Our final week of coverage

Fundraising Update: Our final week of coverage

Dear readers and supporters,

I have dreaded writing this update for a long time, but we currently do not have enough funds to continue the daily operations of the web site.

If our financial situation does not drastically improve, this will be our last week of coverage, with the final date of coverage coming on Sunday, Feb. 3.

I’m working on several different ideas to hopefully extend our reporting, but I felt it was important to update all of you on our current situation.

Girls Soccer: Mercy dominates undermanned Latino Prep

Girls Soccer: Mercy dominates undermanned Latino Prep

By Matthew Snyder

Mercy head girls soccer coach Walter Cortez expects his team to employ a fluid and incisive style of passing during games, instead of simply kicking the ball and running to it.

So even though the Skippers jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead against a severely undermanned Latino Prep team in a West Bay Athletic League Skyline Division matchup on Thursday at the Crocker Amazon Soccer Fields, Cortez wasn’t satisfied until Mercy displayed improved passing and more assured possession en route to a 7-0 rout over the Golden Eagles.

Games of the Day – Bay vs. Gateway boys basketball: Both teams are unbeaten in BCL Central play and will be playing for first place today. Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. St. Ignatius boys soccer: The Wildcats are in third place in the WCAL, while the Irish are in seventh, but only four points separate them. A win (which count for two points in the league) for either team would be crucial with just two weeks remaining in the season. Games of the Day – Bay vs. San Domenico girls basketball: Both teams are 4-0 in BCL Central play and have been blowing away league competition. The Breakers have outscored BCL Central teams by an average of nearly 29 points per game, and the Panthers have outscored league opponents 258-41 in four games. Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. Mitty boys basketball: The Irish may not have the same personnel as last season, but are currently in second place in the WCAL, and all three meetings with the Monarchs last year were instant classics.
