By Jeremy Balan
A remarkable year in San Francisco high school sports was marked by lengthy championship droughts coming to an end, epic runs through the playoffs and one historic football game at AT&T Park.
Here are the top 25 moments from City high school sports in 2011.

Saturday is going to be a memorable one for those associated with Galileo Academy of Science and Technology.
The school public located near Fisherman’s Wharf is hosting Berean Christian of Walnut Creek in football at 1 p.m., but that’s just the appetizer to a full day of celebration.
Galileo is celebrating its 90th anniversary by unveiling the Galileo Sports Hall of Fame and the new Hall of Merit.
Football Preview: Balboa’s return to Turkey Day starts up front
By Bonta Hill
In high school football, rebuilding and replacing graduating seniors is an annual hurdle.
It’s no different at Balboa High School entering the 2011 season, as head coach Alvaro Carvajal has the task of replacing Academic Athletic Association Player of the Year Christian Pulusian, All-City quarterback Kerati Apilakvanichakit and standout running back Greg Warren, a trio that led Balboa to a Turkey Bowl appearance.

SanFranPreps.com Male Athlete of the Year: Christian Pulusian
By Bonta Hill
When thinking about the best prep male athlete in San Francisco, names like University’s Noah Springwater, St. Ignatius’s Johnny Mrlik and Washington’s Jeremy Jetton pop up immediately.
While those respective student athletes had excellent seasons for their schools, the impressive senior season of Balboa High School’s Christian Pulusian exceeded them all, as the three-sport star has earned the accolade of SanFranPreps.com Male Athlete of the Year.
Baseball: SanFranPreps.com All-City Team
By Jeremy Balan
In high school baseball, the most valuable players on any given team are those who are as effective on the mound as they are at the plate.
No other player exemplified that combination, at the highest level of play, like Sacred Heart Cathedral’s Chris Miguel. That’s why he’s the SanFranPreps.com Player of the Year.

Baseball: Giants select Jewish Community’s Sosnick in MLB Draft
By Jeremy Balan
Only two players were selected in this year’s Major League Baseball draft with San Francisco high school ties.
The first, former Washington High School and Sonoma State star O’Koyea Dickson, was a lock, but the second came from maybe the most unlikely source — Jewish Community High School of the Bay.
The Giants selected Jewish Community senior Benny Sosnick in the 49th round (1,497th overall) on Wednesday, marking one of the most noteworthy moments in the school’s 10-year history. Sosnick is the first player from Jewish Community ever taken in the draft.
Baseball: Washington grad Dickson selected by Dodgers in MLB Draft
By Bonta Hill
Growing up a Giants fan, former Academic Athletic Association baseball star O’Koyea Dickson’s dream of getting drafted to a Major League Baseball team came true.
Ironically, Dickson was drafted by the team he grew up to hate — the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A graduate of Washington High School in 2008, Dickson was drafted in the 12th round (374th overall) by the Dodgers on Tuesday.
