Fundraising Update: Our final week of coverage
Dear readers and supporters,
I have dreaded writing this update for a long time, but we currently do not have enough funds to continue the daily operations of the web site.
If our financial situation does not drastically improve, this will be our last week of coverage, with the final date of coverage coming on Sunday, Feb. 3.
I’m working on several different ideas to hopefully extend our reporting, but I felt it was important to update all of you on our current situation.
Donate: Help Keep SanFranPreps.com Alive!
Update (Wednesday, Aug. 1): We’ve updated our goal, decreasing it from $110,000 to $60,000. It appears we won’t be able to hire a full-time photographer this season, despite our efforts. We’re also setting a deadline of Sept. 1. If we do not get to our new goal of $60,000 by Sept. 1, we will not be able to continue our coverage for the next school year.
We are continuing to pursue long-term funding from local and national foundations, but we are locked in long application processes. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help keep SanFranPreps.com alive.
SanFranPreps.com Male Athlete of the Year: Jack Stinn
By Jeremy Balan
The St. Ignatius football and baseball teams won unprecedented section titles in the 2011-2012 school year and one player was at the center of it all.
At quarterback and in the outfield, junior Jack Stinn led each team to its first respective Central Coast Section titles in school history.
That’s why he’s the SanFranPreps.com Male Athlete of the Year.
Baseball: Galileo grad Nelson commits to Cal after a stop at College of San Mateo
By Jeremy Balan
Dylan Nelson was such a force on Galileo Academy’s baseball team in his junior and senior years that when he was redshirted at the College of San Mateo in his first season out of high school, the lack of competition was killing him.
That year off the field drove Nelson, one of the most decorated athletes in Academic Athletic Association history, into a scholarship to play at Cal.
Baseball: SanFranPreps.com All-City Team
By Jeremy Balan
Our All-City teams are not always scientific.
Sometimes, you have to go with your gut.
In the past, our Player of the Year race in baseball has been between those who have had standout seasons at the plate and on the mound — the dual-threat players that impact every game.
This time around, it’s a pitcher, but the exception is truly exceptional.
All you have to do is ask one question: Who was the best baseball player in the City this season? The answer is Collin Monsour.
Baseball: Riordan grad Harlan selected by Pirates in 13th round of MLB Draft

Harlan, who graduated from Archbishop Riordan High School in 2008 and just completed his senior season with the Bulldogs, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 13th round (406th overall) of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Baseball: St. Ignatius comes from behind against Aptos to win first CCS title
By Bonta Hill
SAN JOSE – With the St. Ignatius baseball team facing a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning of the Central Coast Section Division II championship game, Aptos was threatening to put the game away with the bases loaded with one out.
St. Ignatius head coach Matt Stetcher called on his ace, Cal-bound pitcher Collin Monsour, to get the Wildcats out of the jam.
Monsour not only got St. Ignatius out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts, but also swung the momentum of the game that ended with a 5-3 SI victory on Saturday at Municipal Stadium.

Fifth-seeded St. Ignatius scored six runs in the first inning, three runs in the second and closed the game out in the bottom of the fifth on a walkoff RBI double from Nick Johnson that sealed the 10-0 mercy-rule win over the eighth-seeded Chargers.
