Games of the day – St. Ignatius vs. Serra baseball: The Wildcats are seeking their first WCAL tournament title in school history against the Padres, which have won more league titles than any other school. The Wildcats are the higher seed, but Serra is the WCAL’s hottest team and has won eight straight games in league play. International vs. Bay girls soccer: The Breakers may be the No. 2 seed, but make no mistake, the Jaguars are overwhelming favorites to win their fifth straight BCL Central title. International outscored Bay 10-0 in two regular season games and outscored league opponents 79-2 en route to an undefeated record. Baseball: St. Ignatius earns elusive championship bid with win over Valley Christian
By Jeremy Balan
SAN JOSE – The last time a City team played in a West Catholic Athletic League championship game, Bay Area baseball icon Barry Bonds was on the field as a sophomore.
St. Ignatius, which was the last City team to play in the WCAL championship game when it lost to Bonds’ Serra squad in 1980, ended that daunting streak with a 3-1 win over third-seeded Valley Christian in the league semifinals on Wednesday at San Jose Municipal Stadium.

Games of the day – St. Ignatius vs. Valley Christian baseball: The Wildcats took down the Warriors last week to secure the No. 2 seed in the WCAL playoffs, but lost the first game of the series in March. The rubber match today is for a spot in the WCAL championship game. Urban vs. Marin Academy girls soccer: The second-seeded Blues beat the Wildcats twice in the regular season by a combined score of 7-0 and will look for a season sweep, which would also punch their ticket to the BCL West championship game. Baseball: St. Ignatius routs rival Sacred Heart Cathedral in WCAL playoffs
By Zack Farmer
DALY CITY – After allowing the Sacred Heart Cathedral baseball team to cut its early lead to a single run, St. Ignatius blew its West Catholic Athletic League playoff matchup with the Irish open with a nine-run third inning on its way to a 19-8 first-round win on Tuesday at Marchbank Park.

Either Washington or Lowell has won the last 22 AAA championships. The last AAA softball champion that was not Lowell or Washington was McAteer in 1989. Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. St. Ignatius baseball: Strangely enough, if the Irish had not upset the Wildcats on April 17, St. Ignatius would have the top seed in the WCAL playoffs. Baseball: Washington uses 7-run third to secure second straight AAA title over Balboa
By Jeremy Balan
You likely won’t find Washington High School head baseball coach Rob Fung in a more emotional state than where he was on Saturday, standing in the middle of the infield at AT&T Park.
Despite a largely anticlimactic finish to the Eagles’ 10-0 mercy-rule win over Balboa to clinch their second straight Academic Athletic Association championship, Fung stood on the infield grass watching his team run around the outfield with the championship trophy, silently taking it all in
