Girls Golf: St. Ignatius runs into trouble again in NorCal championship
By Jeremy Balan
As impressive as the St. Ignatius girls golf team has been in recent history, the Wildcats extended a daunting streak in the CIF NorCal Championship on Monday at Stanford University Golf Course.
The four-time defending Central Coast Section and 10-time defending West Catholic Athletic League champions fell short of the state championships for the fourth consecutive year, finishing fifth out of 12 teams with a combined score of 434.

Girls Golf: Wong sisters lead Lincoln to undefeated AAA season
By Jeremy Balan
The biggest rivalry in Academic Athletic Association girls golf isn’t between two teams.
It’s between two players, and they share the same last name.
Sisters Shannon and Kristi Wong of Lincoln High School have been the best two individual AAA players for the past two seasons, and led the Mustangs to an undefeated league season this year, capped by a 192-244 win over Wallenberg on Monday at Golden Gate Park Golf Course.

Games of the day – Lincoln vs. Washington football: The winner will not only take ownership of the Victory Bell for a year, but will be a near lock for a AAA playoff spot. Balboa vs. Marshall football: Both teams are 0-2 in AAA play and will be desperate for a win to keep playoff hopes alive. Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. St. Francis football: The Irish will hit the road with a CCS playoff bid in their sights. A win could qualify the Sacred Heart for its first playoff appearance since 2008. Game of the day – St. Ignatius vs. St. Francis girls volleyball: If the Wildcats (11-2, 2-1) have designs to make a state-championship run, they’ll get a taste of that level of competition in the defending Division II state champions. St. Francis (11-1, 2-0) is tied for first place with Presentation in the West Catholic Athletic League, while St. Ignatius is tied for third with Mitty. Games of the day – Galileo vs. Lincoln football: The Mustangs (1-3, 1-0) are riding high after breaking their 15-game losing streak with a win over Balboa last week, but Galileo (3-1, 1-0) took care of business last week as well with a lopsided win over Burton. Lowell vs. Burton football: After an opening-week win over Bret Harte, the Cardinals (1-2, 0-1) have been outscored 71-14, but will look to avenge a 2010 loss to the Pumas (0-2, 0-1).
