Fundraising Update: Our final week of coverage

Fundraising Update: Our final week of coverage

Dear readers and supporters,

I have dreaded writing this update for a long time, but we currently do not have enough funds to continue the daily operations of the web site.

If our financial situation does not drastically improve, this will be our last week of coverage, with the final date of coverage coming on Sunday, Feb. 3.

I’m working on several different ideas to hopefully extend our reporting, but I felt it was important to update all of you on our current situation.

Beyond Preps: Will McKee’s return to Kezar Stadium

Beyond Preps: Will McKee’s return to Kezar Stadium

By Jeremy Balan

Will McKee has played at Kezar Stadium more times than he can remember.

Playing football, lacrosse and soccer in four years at St. Ignatius Prep, big games were always at Kezar, but he didn’t wear the familiar red, white and blue uniform in his final appearance at the iconic stadium.

This time, he informally launched his college lacrosse career as a freshman midfielder for Lehigh University, which played Ohio State in the San Francisco Lacrosse Fall Classic on Sunday at Kezar.

Donate: Help Keep SanFranPreps.com Alive!

Update (Wednesday, Aug. 1): We’ve updated our goal, decreasing it from $110,000 to $60,000. It appears we won’t be able to hire a full-time photographer this season, despite our efforts. We’re also setting a deadline of Sept. 1. If we do not get to our new goal of $60,000 by Sept. 1, we will not be able to continue our coverage for the next school year.

We are continuing to pursue long-term funding from local and national foundations, but we are locked in long application processes. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help keep SanFranPreps.com alive.

By Jeremy Balan

The St. Ignatius football and baseball teams won unprecedented section titles in the 2011-2012 school year and one player was at the center of it all.

At quarterback and in the outfield, junior Jack Stinn led each team to its first respective Central Coast Section titles in school history.

That’s why he’s the SanFranPreps.com Male Athlete of the Year.

SanFranPreps.com Female Athlete of the Year: Maria Kemiji-McDonald

SanFranPreps.com Female Athlete of the Year: Maria Kemiji-McDonald

By Jeremy Balan

Maria Kemiji-McDonald is a dying breed.

In the age of specialization, where athletes, specifically in high school, improve on skills by focusing on one sport, Kemiji-McDonald has played three at St. Ignatius for her entire high school career.

For the second year in a row, Kemiji-McDonald is the SanFranPreps.com Girls Athlete of the Year, not only because she plays three sports, but because she excels at them all.

Games of the day – St. Ignatius vs. Valley Christian baseball: The Wildcats took down the Warriors last week to secure the No. 2 seed in the WCAL playoffs, but lost the first game of the series in March. The rubber match today is for a spot in the WCAL championship game. Boys Lacrosse: St. Ignatius wins third straight WCAL title over Bellarmine

Boys Lacrosse: St. Ignatius wins third straight WCAL title over Bellarmine

By Jeremy Balan

When the West Catholic Athletic League added boys lacrosse in 2010, it was assumed and stated by many that it wouldn’t be long before athletic powerhouses to the south caught up to St. Ignatius.

With a dominating 16-2 win over visiting Bellarmine in the WCAL championship game on Friday, the Wildcats proved the opposite – they’re distancing themselves from the pack.
