I’m working on several different ideas to hopefully extend our reporting, but I felt it was important to update all of you on our current situation.

Girls Soccer: Mercy dominates undermanned Latino Prep

By Matthew Snyder

Mercy head girls soccer coach Walter Cortez expects his team to employ a fluid and incisive style of passing during games, instead of simply kicking the ball and running to it.

So even though the Skippers jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead against a severely undermanned Latino Prep team in a West Bay Athletic League Skyline Division matchup on Thursday at the Crocker Amazon Soccer Fields, Cortez wasn’t satisfied until Mercy displayed improved passing and more assured possession en route to a 7-0 rout over the Golden Eagles.

Boys Soccer: Otto twins lead the way in St. Ignatius’ close win over Sacred Heart

By Matthew Snyder

Philip Otto punctuated a rare start in midfield by scoring two headed goals and his twin brother Carl produced a game-saving stop at goalkeeper to help the St. Ignatius boys soccer team edge rival Sacred Heart Cathedral 2-1 in an extremely physical West Catholic Athletic League matchup on Tuesday at Kezar Stadium.

Girls Soccer: Undermanned St. Ignatius surrenders early lead to Presentation

Girls Soccer: Undermanned St. Ignatius surrenders early lead to Presentation

But the goal galvanized Presentation, which is currently tied for second place with St. Francis in the WCAL standings, and the Panthers poured in three sensational individual goals to power a 3-1 comeback win and avoid an upset against the seventh-place Wildcats.
