Girls Volleyball: SanFranPreps.com All-City Team
By Jeremy Balan
Sacred Heart Cathedral may have had the best girls volleyball season in the City this year, but no player meant as much to her team as St. Ignatius outside hitter Claire Healy.
The senior, headed to Division I Bucknell University next season, was not only the Wildcats’ best hitter, but was also their most consistent defensive player.
She also carried St. Ignatius with standout performances throughout the Central Coast Section Division III tournament and was the lone Wildcat in the elite company of the All-West Catholic Athletic League first team.
That’s why she’s the SanFranPreps.com City Player of the Year.
Girls Volleyball: Sacred Heart’s playoff run ends in NorCal title loss to Albany
By Jeremy Balan
At the start of every game of Sacred Heart Cathedral’s Northern California Division III girls volleyball title matchup against visiting Albany, the Irish looked every bit like a champion.
Unfortunately for the Irish, they just couldn’t hold on.
Sacred Heart held early, sizable leads in every game, but could not close out Albany in a heartbreaking 27-25, 25-19, 17-25, 23-25, 15-11 loss on Tuesday night.

Girls Volleyball: Sacred Heart sweeps Drake, advances to NorCal championship
By Jeremy Balan
Sacred Heart Cathedral’s girls volleyball team didn’t have its cleanest match in the second round of the CIF State Division III playoffs against visiting Drake on Saturday.
However, when the Pirates challenged Sacred Heart in the third game and threatened to extend the match, the Irish didn’t flinch.
Sacred Heart eliminated two separate four-point deficits in the third game and fought back from a Drake game-point opportunity to seal a 25-14, 25-22, 26-24 win.
Girls Volleyball: St. Ignatius falls to Vista del Lago in five-game thriller
By Aidan Fitzsimon
FOLSOM — St. Ignatius looked like the better team throughout Tuesday’s CIF State Division III playoff match on the road against Vista del Lago, but the Wildcats ran into standout outside hitter Caroline Sipiora.
The Wildcats had trouble with Sipiora all night and the junior led the Eagles with 22 kills in a 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-27, 18-16 Vista win.
Girls Volleyball: University upsets Castilleja in first round of state playoffs
By Ryan Kuhn
PALO ALTO — University High School proved that playing away from home is not a disadvantage in the first round of the CIF State Division V tournament.
After losing in the North Coast Section championship game on Saturday, the Red Devils rebounded by sweeping Central Coast Section champ Castilleja 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 on Tuesday.
Girls Volleyball: Sacred Heart Cathedral blows away Balboa in state playoffs
By Jeremy Balan
As well as Balboa High School’s girls volleyball team has played in recent weeks, Sacred Heart Cathedral showed the Buccaneers exactly why it is Northern California’s top seed in the CIF State Division III playoffs on Tuesday.
The Sacred Heart victory was never in doubt, as the Irish swept the visiting Buccaneers in a convincing 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 win.

Girls Volleyball: Balboa rides Ngan to state tournament win over Enterprise
By Jeremy Balan
“Give it to her!”
That’s the phrase Balboa head coach Val Cubales screamed throughout the Buccaneers’ Academic Athletic Association championship win over Lowell on Nov. 11, but in the play-in round of the CIF State Division III tournament against Enterprise of Redding, he didn’t say it until the final point.
The Bucs did send the ball to standout junior outside hitter Cynthia Ngan and she delivered the final point of their 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22 win over Enterprise on Monday at School of the Arts.
