Softball: Lowell moves into first-place tie with Washington with wild win
By Jeremy Balan
As crazy as the events and linescore of the final regular-season meeting between Academic Athletic Association softball powers Lowell and Washington were, only one fact really mattered.
The Cardinals evened the score.
After dropping their first meeting 13-3, Lowell responded with a 11-9 win over Washington on Thursday at Rossi Recreation Center.
Baseball: Washington’s eight-run fifth inning too much for Lowell to overcome
By Jeremy Balan
Until further notice, Washington High School is still the team to beat in Academic Athletic Association baseball.
In a showdown of undefeated teams, the defending AAA champs headed into the top of the fifth inning trailing Lowell 4-3, but scored eight runs in the fifth en route to a 11-5 win on Wednesday at Big Rec, sealing the top seed in the league playoffs.

Baseball: Nelson leads Galileo to postseason-clinching win over Lincoln
By Jeremy Balan
To the likely chagrin of the rest of the Academic Athletic Association, Galileo’s Kyle Nelson looked like his big brother on Thursday.
Nelson, a skinny sophomore left-hander, doesn’t physically look like former two-time AAA Player of the Year Dylan Nelson in form or stature yet, but he showed he can take over a game on the mound and at the plate, just like his big bro, in a 7-4 win over Lincoln at Moscone Recreation Center.
Boys Volleyball: Lowell’s victory overshadowed by gruesome injury to Lincoln player
By Jeremy Balan
Lowell High School’s boys volleyball team kept pace with fellow unbeaten Galileo with a 25-9, 25-17, 25-13 Academic Athletic Association win on the road against Lincoln on Wednesday, but that won’t likely be what those in attendance will remember from the match.

By Jeremy Balan
Lincoln High School’s girls soccer team stayed with 14-time defending Academic Athletic Association champion Lowell in the first half on Tuesday.
