Basketball: After girls team folded, Jordan’s Hall finds a home on boys squad
By Jeremy Balan
Entering his first year coaching the Jordan School boys basketball team, Robert Sotelo asked for one thing from his players – commitment.
It’s hard to imagine a player with more of that value than senior guard Franeka Hall.
Hall, a star on the girls basketball team last season who averaged nearly 25 points per game, is now playing for the boys team.
Boys Basketball: Turnovers haunt Riordan in home loss to Serra
By Bonta Hill
So often in so many sports, turnovers and errors are a recipe for disaster.
Archbishop Riordan High School’s boys basketball team outrebounded visiting Serra 32-20 and shot better from the field, but turned the ball over 20 times in a 54-43 West Catholic Athletic League loss on Wednesday.

Boys Basketball: Urban stays in first-place tie with win on the road against Lick
By Bonta Hill
The Urban School boys basketball team has been an afterthought in recent memory, but with the coaching of Joe Skiffer and the play of juniors Nate Cohen and Matt Monges, the Blues are making some noise in the Bay Counties League West.
Led by Cohen’s 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Monges’ game-high 20 points, Urban defeated host Lick-Wilmerding for the second time this season 52-42 in BCL West play on Tuesday.

Games of the day – Galileo vs. Washington girls basketball: Both teams are 5-1 in AAA play and if the Lions want to stay within reach of Lowell in the Neff Division, a win over the Eagles is essential. Lick-Wilmerding vs. Urban boys basketball: Many thought the Tigers had a shot at being in first place in the BCL West at this point in the season, but the Blues are a bit of a surprise. The winner of this game will likely remain in a first-place tie with University. St. Ignatius vs. Sacred Heart Cathedral girls basketball: The Wildcats are riding high after their best win of the season over Mitty last week, but it would be unwise to overlook the Irish, which stand in third place in the WCAL standings.
