When watching Urban School’s Evan Chang playing for the Blues on the volleyball court, you can’t help but notice his talent, but something seems off.
Undoubtedly the best player in the program’s five-year history, Chang regularly plays out of position for the Blues, but is actually one of the best high school liberos in the Bay Area.

By Jeremy Balan
So much of St. Ignatius’ success in its breakout season was due to the team’s versatility and multiple offensive weapons, but on the biggest stages, when they needed a point, the Wildcats went to senior Mat Collins.
With a team-high 240 kills this season, Collins played his best volleyball late in the year, including a season-high 19 kills against Bellarmine in the West Catholic Athletic League championship game, giving St. Ignatius its first league title in school history.
That’s why he was chosen as the SanFranPreps.com boys volleyball Player of the Year.

Boys Volleyball: St. Ignatius claims first CCS title with win over Mt. Madonna
By Jeremy Balan
SAN JOSE — After winning its first-ever West Catholic Athletic League title, St. Ignatius’ boys volleyball team rode the momentum in the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs, not losing a game in the first two rounds.
That all changed in the championship game against top-seeded Mt. Madonna School of Watsonville, but the Wildcats outlasted the Falcons 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-7 to clinch their first CCS title in school history on Tuesday at Independence High School.

Madonna (28-7). University vs. Sonoma Academy boys lacrosse: The Red Devils edged Marin Academy to win another BCL West championship on Friday, but still seek their first North Coast Section title. This is the first year the NCS has expanded to two divisions, so the door could be open for a University run.

Games of the day – University vs. Marin Academy girls soccer: After being knocked out of the playoffs in the semifinals last year, the Red Devils are the clear favorite to take the BCL West crown this year, and beat Marin Academy 4-0 and 3-0 in the regular season. Galileo vs. Lincoln boys volleyball: Without a doubt the most talented teams in the AAA this season will meet in the championship game. The top-seeded Lions will seek their first title in school history, but have been in this situation before. In 2008, the Lions fell to Lowell in the championship game after a 11-1 regular season.

After losing both regular season games handily last year, Bay gave International everything they could handle the championship game. Lincoln vs. Lowell softball: Lowell and Washington have been well above the rest of the AAA this season, but Lincoln opened up the playoffs with a bang, scoring 32 runs in the first round against Wallenberg.

Boys Volleyball: Lincoln storms back to beat Lowell in AAA semifinals
By Jeremy Balan
Two games into its Academic Athletic Association semifinal match against Lowell High School, Lincoln was in the worst possible position.
The Mustangs dropped the first two games and were plagued by frequent unforced errors, but after Lowell took the opening point in the third game, Lincoln responded.
After tying the game on the next point, the Mustangs did not allow the Cardinals to hold another lead in the match, storming back to win the final three games en route to a 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 16-14 win on Wednesday at Lowell High School.

Games of the day – University vs. Lick-Wilmerding girls soccer: At times, University has been dominant in BCL West play this season, but Urban beat them and Lick, who they meet in the league semifinals, played them tough in their two meetings. Their first meeting was a 1-1 draw and in their second, the Red Devils pulled out a 2-1 win. Lowell vs. Lincoln boys volleyball: After dropping a match to Galileo early in the season, the Cardinals hit their stride, winning seven straight. A rematch with the Lions may be on the horizon, but Lowell will have to get through Lincoln first for a shot to defend its championship. It’s rematch of last year’s final and the final match of the season, where Lincoln knocked Lowell out of first place.
