Girls Basketball: Mercy’s season ends with overtime loss to Marin Catholic
By Josh Levine
It took an extra 4 minutes of game time, but Mercy High School’s girls basketball team saw its season end in a 45-44 overtime loss to visiting Marin Catholic in the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation Division IV state playoffs on Wednesday.
Mercy junior guard Christina Haight had a chance to win the game for the sixth-seed Skippers (26-4) with a half-court heave at the buzzer in overtime, but the 11th-seed Wildcats (23-8) held on as Haight’s shot rolled off the rim.

Girls Basketball: Summers-Luaulu leads Sacred Heart to another CCS championship
By Jeremy Balan
SANTA CLARA – There’s something about Santa Clara University’s Leavey Center that brings out the best in Sacred Heart Cathedral guard GeAnna Summers-Luaulu.
A year after scoring 20 points against rival St. Ignatius in last season’s championship game as a freshman, Summers-Luaulu again had her best game of the season at the Leavey Center to lead the Irish to a 61-56 win over Terra Nova in the Central Coast Section Division III championship game on Saturday.

Girls Basketball: St. Ignatius succumbs to Mitty’s late pressure in CCS title game
By Jeremy Balan
SANTA CLARA – The St. Ignatius girls basketball team was rattled in their loss to Mitty in the West Catholic Athletic League championship game two weeks ago.
For three quarters in the rematch with the Monarchs in the Central Coast Section Division II championship game, the Mitty defensive pressure did not faze the Wildcats, but in the fourth the same shakiness reared its ugly head in a 49-48 Mitty win on Friday at Santa Clara University.

Girls Basketball: International’s young guns the difference in NCS semifinals
By Josh Levine
Much of International High School’s recent success can be attributed to senior captain Denia Ebersole, but it was the play of two underclassmen that stole the show on Wednesday night.
Sophomore guard Natalie Kelly scored 24 points and freshman guard Shayna Mehta added 19 to lead the sixth-seeded Jaguars to a dominant 62-39 win over visiting San Domenico of San Anselmo in the North Coast Section Division V semifinals.

Games of the day – Lincoln vs. Marshall boys basketball: The Phoenix showed flashes of greatness this year, but dropped both regular-season meetings with the Mustangs, including a disheartening 51-29 loss last week. St. Ignatius vs. El Camino boys basketball: The Wildcats dropped a non-league game to the Colts in December, but a win tonight puts them into the section championship game and gives them a spot in the state championship tournament. International vs. San Domenico girls basketball: The Jaguars have already advanced further than any team in school history, but will take on their BCL Central rivals in the semifinals. International dominated the Panthers in the league championship game, but San Domenico proved they could beat the Jaguars with a 50-40 road win in January.
