Girls Volleyball: Lowell swept out of state playoffs by Granite Bay
By Jeremy Balan
As dominant as the Lowell High School girls volleyball program has been in the Academic Athletic Association since the San Francisco Section began playing the sport in 1974, it has never been able to carry that success over into the CIF State Tournament.
That trend continued on Tuesday, when the seventh-seeded Cardinals dropped their opening-round Division I matchup to second-seeded Granite Bay 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 at Lowell.
Girls Volleyball: SHC falls short against Valley Christian in CCS title game
By Jeremy Balan
SAN JOSE – On a good day, the Sacred Heart Cathedral girls volleyball team can go toe-to-toe with Valley Christian.
On a bad day, like Saturday, the Irish look outmatched against the Warriors.
Top-seeded Valley Christian emphatically enforced its claim as the best Central Coast Section Division III team with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 win over the Irish in the section championship at Independence High School.

By Jeremy Balan
A three-year championship drought entering the year felt like ages to the Lowell High School girls volleyball program that had won 27 of the 38 Academic Athletic Association titles since the San Francisco Section began playing the sport in 1974.
But the Cardinals’ 26-6, 25-16, 17-25, 25-12 win over Washington on Thursday at Kezar Pavilion clinched their 28th AAA title and may be the first step of the new Lowell dynasty.
Girls Volleyball: Convent advances in NCS playoffs with win over International
By Jeremy Balan
Convent of the Sacred Heart High School’s girls volleyball team didn’t have an answer for the powerful attacks from standout International freshman outside hitter Michelle Gajdka in the North Coast Section Division V playoffs on Wednesday, but didn’t need one.
The fifth-seeded Cubs found their path to victory when Gajdka was stuck in the back row, most crucially in the final game of their 25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 25-12 win on Wednesday at Convent.

Girls Volleyball: Washington capitalizes on Lincoln mistakes to advance to AAA final
By Jeremy Balan
The manner in which the Washington High School girls volleyball team defeated Lincoln in the Academic Athletic Association semifinals was definitively ugly.
But the result, for a school that has never won a AAA girls volleyball title, was beautiful.
The second-seeded Eagles capitalized off a staggering 57 Lincoln unforced errors that resulted in points in a 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20 win on Tuesday at Washington.

Girls Volleyball: Sacred Heart Cathedral sweeps Presentation to advance to WCAL final
By Jeremy Balan
Visiting Presentation High School may have been missing its two best players to injuries in the West Catholic Athletic League semifinals on Wednesday , but at this point in the season, the context of any win doesn’t matter all that much to the Sacred Heart Cathedral girls volleyball team.
What does matter is results, and with a 25-12, 25-11, 28-26 win over Presentation, the Irish now have a chance to win their first WCAL girls volleyball title in school history.
