Games of the day – Sacred Heart Cathedral’s CCS basketball games: Both Irish basketball teams are looking to repeat as section champions. With a win, the boys team could become just the second boys team in section history to win four consecutive titles. Boys Basketball: Mission outlasts Marshall to claim second AAA title in three years
By Bonta Hill
Mission High School’s boys basketball team was determined to return to the Academic Athletic Association championship game after last season’s loss to Washington.
Senior forward Gione Edwards and junior guard Kevin Murray were two players who sat through that disappointment, carrying that bad memory with them all season, and that experience paid off for the duo Friday night.
Edwards scored 25 points and took in 15 rebounds, while Murray, who shot 0-for-7 from the floor in last season’s championship game, scored a game-high 26 points as Mission won their second AAA title in three years with a 89-76 victory over Marshall on Friday at Kezar Pavilion.

Game of the day – Lowell vs. Washington girls soccer: Other than a handful of forfeits Lowell had in 2010 and 2007, the Cardinals have not lost a game on the field since 2003 (the earliest season the AAA has complete records). The Cardinals have only had one tie in that span, when they played to a 1-1 draw with Washington in 2010. For live updates on this game, follow us on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/SanFranPreps.
Boys Basketball: Marshall stuns Lincoln with fourth-quarter comeback in AAA semis
By Bonta Hill
Down seven points with 5:13 left in the game, it seemed Marshall High School’s boys basketball team was exhausted and out of gas in the Academic Athletic Association semifinals against Lincoln.
But the Phoenix went on a 14-0 run over the next four minutes to pull ahead in a 52-47 win on Wednesday at Kezar Pavilion, upsetting the AAA’s best team in the regular season.

Games of the day – Lincoln vs. Marshall boys basketball: The Phoenix showed flashes of greatness this year, but dropped both regular-season meetings with the Mustangs, including a disheartening 51-29 loss last week. St. Ignatius vs. El Camino boys basketball: The Wildcats dropped a non-league game to the Colts in December, but a win tonight puts them into the section championship game and gives them a spot in the state championship tournament. International vs. San Domenico girls basketball: The Jaguars have already advanced further than any team in school history, but will take on their BCL Central rivals in the semifinals. International dominated the Panthers in the league championship game, but San Domenico proved they could beat the Jaguars with a 50-40 road win in January. Games of the day – Galileo vs. Washington girls basketball: The Lions upset the Eagles in their lone regular-season meeting, a 56-55 thriller that was sealed by a timeless free throw from Galileo sophomore guard Sarah Lim. Mercy vs. Notre Dame-Belmont girls basketball: Despite holding the top seed in the Division IV CCS playoffs, the Skippers have to play on the fourth-seeded Tigers’ home court. The only common opponent the teams share is Mills, which Mercy beat 49-36 and Notre Dame beat 36-25. For live updates on these games, follow us on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/SanFranPreps.

Games of the day – Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. Burlingame boys basketball: It’s a bit early for the two teams to meet in the CCS playoffs, but they’re more than familiar. The Irish have met with Burlingame in the last three CCS Division III championship games, but this time, will take the Panthers in the quarterfinals. St. Ignatius vs. Aptos boys basketball: The sixth-seeded Mariners travel to the City to take on the third-seeded Wildcats and the only common opponent between the two teams is Santa Cruz. The Wildcats beat Santa Cruz handily in the Sand Dune Classic, while the Mariners won two of three meetings with Cardinals in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play. University vs. Sonoma Academy girls basketball: The Red Devils host the fourth-seeded Coyotes, who have already had their way with City opponents this season. Sonoma Academy has already recorded wins over International, Bay and Urban this season. For live updates on these game, follow us on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/SanFranPreps.
Boys Basketball: Marshall pulls away in second half to beat Galileo in AAA playoffs
By Bonta Hill
It wasn’t pretty, but Marshall High School did enough defensively to move on in the Academic Athletic Association playoffs.
The Phoenix pressed and trapped Galileo into 22 turnovers, and held the Lions scoreless for a long stretch in the second half to secure a 60-42 road win.

Game of the day – Lowell vs. Washington boys basketball: As the Neff Division’s top seed, the Cardinals host the rival Eagles, but Washington has shown in recent weeks that they can beat the AAA’s best, with wins over Lincoln and Marshall. Galileo vs. Marshall boys basketball: The Lions and the Phoenix have had plenty of peaks and valleys this season, but their only meeting this year was a 44-42 Marshall win.
