Game of the day – Lowell vs. Washington girls soccer: Other than a handful of forfeits Lowell had in 2010 and 2007, the Cardinals have not lost a game on the field since 2003 (the earliest season the AAA has complete records). The Cardinals have only had one tie in that span, when they played to a 1-1 draw with Washington in 2010. For live updates on this game, follow us on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/SanFranPreps.

Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. Drake girls volleyball: The Irish rolled to a first-round win over Balboa, but Drake has a track record of upsets in the last two years. As the No. 7 seed last season, the Pirates upset No. 2 seed St. Ignatius in the state tournament and this season, as the No. 8 seed, upset top-seeded Bishop O’Dowd in the NCS playoffs. Football Game of the Week: Sacred Heart looks for non-league sweep

By Jeremy Balan

Its first two games couldn’t have been more different, but Sacred Heart Cathedral is on the path to clearing its first hurdle — sweeping its non-league schedule.

Before the brutal West Catholic Athletic League football season begins, a non-league sweep is almost essential for entrance in the Central Coast Section playoffs.

But the final leg of that schedule, Jefferson, is no pushover. The Indians went 8-2 in the regular season last year before falling to eventual CCS champion Terra Nova 21-19 in the playoffs.

Girls Soccer: University’s NCS run ends with loss to Redwood in semis

By Dante Quazzo

Coming into Wednesday night’s North Coast Section semifinal, University High School had only lost to two teams all year. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, one of them was Redwood.

The Giants repeated their success against the Red Devils on Wednesday night at Kimball Field, and upset top-seeded University 2-0 to advance to the NCS final against Marin Catholic.

Games of the day – University vs. Redwood girls soccer: Despite their No. 1 ranking, University may not be the favorite in this NCS matchup. In the first game of the season, the Red Devils lost to Redwood 1-0, but have only lost one game since. Since their last loss to Urban, the Red Devils have rattled off 12 consecutive victories. International vs. Hoopa Valley baseball: The sixth-seeded Jaguars will face a bit of the unknown in Hoopa Valley, which went 14-9 and finished second in the Humbolt-Del Norte League’s Little 4 Division. International last played Hoopa Valley in 2008, when they defeated the Warriors 6-4 in the North Coast Section playoffs. The Warriors will make make a nearly 350-mile trip from Hoopa, which includes a six-hour bus ride.

Game of the day – Bay vs. Gateway girls soccer: After dropping last season’s BCL Central title game to International 2-1, the Breakers are looking to get another shot at the top-seeded Jaguars, which haven’t lost a league game in the past two seasons. But Bay will have to get through Gateway first. Bay won both regular season meetings with Gateway 3-1 and 2-0.

Game of the day – Gateway vs. International baseball: The two BCL Central finalists will meet for the first time this season. Gateway (5-5, 3-1) ruined what was an undefeated league season for International with an upset in the BCL Central championship game last year and the Jaguars (9-3, 3-0) are certainly welcoming a shot at redemption.
